The Second Global Forum of Producers of Prohibited Plants took place in mid-January in Heemskerk, the Netherlands. During this event, small scale farmers of cannabis, coca and opium from 14 countries discussed their contribution to the United Nations General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS), to be held in New York from 19 to 21 April 2016. Participants shared their experiences, concerns, and initiatives concerning today’s international drug control policies, especially in the topic of forced eradication, different uses of prohibited plants, sustainable rural development, as well as drugs and conflict. Following two days of heated debates and deliberations, the Heemskerk Declaration was agreed upon.
